NCKU, CECI further strengthen academia-industry cooperation
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and CECI Engineering Consultants signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Nov. 27 on the cooperation in the field of geomatics, aimed at achieving a "win-win" situation for the two sides. NCKU President Jenny Su inked the pact on behalf of the Tainan-based school’s Department of Geomatics, while Lie-Liung Chou signed on behalf of CECI in his capacity as the Taipei-based company's chairman.
The latest signed deal seeks to mutually cultivate talents and undertake long-term reciprocal partnership for education, research, internship and services. They have agreed that CECI will be invited to instruct classes at NCKU, while the NCKU professors will give one or two workshops each month at the firm. The two will also jointly work on government-funded projects.
“We are very grateful that CECI is willing to share its insightful observations in the practice field, offering the faculty and the students of our university more stimulations and challenges,” Su said at the MOU signing ceremony, adding that she hoped to see more fruitful results and progress through the tie-up. Chou, a NCKU alumnus who just received the NCKU Distinguished Achievement Award this year, echoed Su’s remarks, expressing optimism toward the partnership.
“The fact that there are many top-notch professionals in my alma mater makes this cooperation even more important and special,” he said, noting that geomatics can serve a critical role in the modern society. CECI, established in 1969 in the name of China Engineering Consultants, has participated in projects include the Taiwan’s first freeway, the world’s biggest High Speed Railway BOT project, metro systems, and many others.
The engineering consulting firm has been awarded ISO certification and many accreditations, such as the Public Construction Golden Quality Award, MOTC Golden Way Award, MOL Golden Safety Award and Taipei City Distinguished Public Construction Award.
