NCKU, ITRI ink deal on green industry cooperation

NCKU and ITRI signed an MOU on green industry cooperation

National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) signed an agreement on green industry cooperation on Nov. 27, aiming to speed up the industry’s developments and commercialization.

NCKU President Jenny Su and ITRI Executive Vice President Pei-Zen Chang inked the pact on behalf of their individual organizations, while Chuan-Neng Lin, Director General of Bureau of Energy, witnessed the signing ceremony that took place on NCKU Kuei-Jen Campus.

One of the main cooperation projects is to set up a “clean energy technical verification and integrated application platform,” which can offer real field performance and mass production technology validation field. Its energy creation and energy saving features are exactly in line with the government’s "5 plus 2" industrial innovation development program, said Chang.

“We hope to upgrade our capabilities through integrating the academic and research sectors, with the aims of accelerating the transformation of green industry and thus reaching the ultimate goal of building an innovative industry ecosystem,” he added.

Su echoed Chang’s comments, saying that the intelligent energy-saving building rotation test verification platform can enhance the development and management of Taiwan’s green building material.
NCKU Research Center for Energy Technology and Strategy has long been assisting Taiwan’s Low Carbon Building Alliance, she said, adding that the platform is a good example combining ITRI’s key technology in green industry.

The two organizations will also jointly set up a “low-carbon energy park” at the Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City in southern Taiwan, which they believe can be used as a crucial innovation platform for energy technology R&D in the future.

Technologies, such as low-carbon bioenergy and carbon capture to reduce emissions, will all be applied to the campus as a demonstration field.
“The Low-carbon Energy Park will serve as a green industry research cluster, help cultivate talents in the specific field, and speed up the commercialization process of the technology,” said Lin.
