Forum on Industry and Talent Matching with Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand: New Southbound Policy to promote Talents and Technology

On November 24, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) hosted the "Forum on Industry and Talent Matching with Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand".  Representatives from Taiwan and Malaysia were present along with top business management teams from Thailand, to deliver the keynote speech or share their experiences. There was also a job fair intended for different companies that are planning to expand to southbound markets and recruit talents based on their requirements, and overseas Chinese students from Southeast Asia or fresh graduates who wish to advance their career in Southeast Asia.  NCKU organized the talent matching, which was not limited to its students. The participants included students from National Taiwan University, National University of Kaohsiung, National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism, and National Pingtung University of Science and Technology.  It was a pioneering event participated by different universities in Taiwan.

The "Forum on Industry and Talent Matching with Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand" was NCKU’s first major event, which was in line with the implementation of the New Southbound Policy (NSP) of the Ministry of Education. It was held on November 24 at the Tzu-Chiang Campus of NCKU.  Investment Specialist  Kuan-Yu Lin from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority and Guo-Peng Chen, general manager of Uni-President Enterprises Corporation (based in Thailand) were invited to the forum to share their experiences relating to the investment environment in Malaysia and Thailand.  Also present at the conference to share their knowledge of China-funded business projects in Malaysia, startup opportunities, and technology transfer were Qing-Rong Luo, representative from the Office of Trade Negotiations, Executive Yuan; Dr. Datuk Lei Zhixiong, chairman of PUMM in Malaysia; Cai Chongzhi, Managing Director of SGB BIOTECHNOLOGY SDN BHD and Jun-Neng Fang, chief executive officer of the Malaysia-Taiwan Academia-Industry Innovation Center.

In line with the Taiwan government's NSP, Malaysian enterprises made their first visit in September after regional trade, culture, and an industry-academic resource center were established at the University of Malaya, which has the longest history with NCKU in Malaysia.  One of the major companies in the group that visited NCKU's Technology Transfer and Business Incubation Center was Tan Chong Motor Holdings. Bhd, which was interested in exploring the possibility of a collaboration with NCKU on motor-related technology.  Another company, Y.S.P. SOUTHEAST ASIA HOLDING BERHAD Y.S.P. SAHexpressed interest to collaborate on technologies related to medical devices and supplements.

This was the first visiting group of enterprises from Malaysia since NCKU set up the southbound base in Malaysia in accordance with the Taiwan government's NSP. NCKU is proactively promoting industry-academic cooperation with Southeast Asian countries. It expects to achieve this by establishing a base in Malaysia’s top university in order to expand to other Southeast Asian countries and eventually worldwide, making NCKU the first choice for global industry-academic alliance.
