National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) inked a deal with Taiwan’s leading companies SAMPO Corporation and RECHI Precision Co Ltd. on Dec. 18, in the attempt to further develop smart home technologies through cultivating more talents and offering better total solutions.

NCKU President Jenny Su, SAMPO Chairman Sheng Tien Chen, and RECHI Vice Chairman Jin Hsi Liu signed a memorandum of understanding on behalf of their individual capacities. The ceremony was also graced by former NCKU President Hwung-Hweng Hwung, who is currently the commissioner of Executive Yuan’s Ocean Affairs Council.

With the combined resources, Su expressed confidence that NCKU can fully make good use of the developments and achievements NCKU has made in the fields of energy, artificial intelligence and industrial design. “We see new opportunities,” she said at the signing ceremony, adding that the Tainan-based school has been dedicated to good education and promoting better life for nearly 90 years.

NCKU Global Research & Industry Alliance (GLORIA) will also do its best to achieve industrial linkage, bridging the gap between the private and academic sectors, the president stated. The trilateral cooperation is aimed at developing the smart industry, especially in the applications and products in the households.

The project will first look for innovative ideas amongst the youngsters and then further come up with better solutions regarding the manufacturing and product quality enhancement. With an ultimate goal of creating a smart innovative life in the future, the school vows to cultivate talents in the related fields and expects sustainable cooperation and development.

The two above mentioned companies are both based in the northern city of Taoyuan. SAMPO, a major home appliance manufacturer established in 1936, has been focusing on smart home technologies in line with the global trend and developments of IoT, while RECHI, established in 1989, is now the fourth largest compressor manufacturer in the world.
